Application for Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship
Each year, Hebrew Seminary awards the Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship to qualifying rabbinical students. The Scholarship is applied directly to payment of qualifying students’ tuition. The amount awarded by the Scholarship and the number of students eligible to receive the Scholarship is subject to change each year.
In the 2025-2026 academic year, the Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship will pay for $2,000.00 of the tuition of 1 qualifying rabbinical student. Every summer, the Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship Committee reviews the applications of interested rabbinical students and awards this scholarship based on such factors as merit and need.
In order to qualify, rabbinical students must:
- have completed 20 credits as a student at Hebrew Seminary;
- commit to enrolling in and completing at least 4 courses at Hebrew Seminary in the following Fall semester; and
- have never previously been the recipient of the Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship.
To apply, rabbinical students must submit:
- a letter of interest, explaining how the student wishes to serve others in their rabbinate (approximately 500 words); and
- a sample of the student’s Torah teaching (such as through a devar torah, an essay, an article, an audio recording, a video, or a work of visual art with accompanying commentary).
All application materials for the Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship should be submitted via e-mail, with the subject heading “Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship,” to Hebrew Seminary’s Dean of Students, Rabbi Shari Chen, at rabbichen@hebrewseminary.org.
To be considered for Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship in the Fall of 2025, students must submit all of their application materials prior to August 1, 2025. The scholarship will be awarded prior to the beginning of the Fall semester.
Hebrew Seminary encourages students to apply for the Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhamer Scholarship, even if they have previously applied and not been awarded the Scholarship.
